Road Safety in Greely

Hello friends in Greely and the Osgoode Ward,

For everyone who lives in the Greeley area, or travels along Mitch Owens Road we are all well aware of the dangers that are present as a result of high rates of speed, dangerous driving, and failure to observe traffic signals.

Many of our residential streets intersect with Mitch Owens Road and one particular area which has seen an increased danger is the intersection of Mitch Owens Road and Manotick Station Road. 

The immediate area just before Mitch Owens Road on Manotick Station Road is 50 km. As I was speaking to residents in the area, cars were flying past at speeds well above the posted 50 km markings. 

Furthermore, The intersection has traffic control signals, which are regularly ignored by commercial vehicles and other vehicles traveling eastbound or westbound along Mitch Owens Road. 

As a resident of Greely and someone who travels along the many roads toward Mitch Owens Road, I have seen the high speeds, careless driving, and ignorance of the traffic signals at these intersections and many others along Mitch Mitch Owens Road. 

I am working to propose red light cameras at these intersections, and more intensive speed enforcement on the feeder roads. These are the roads that run north and south of Mitch Owens Road. 

As we all know, there are families, children, people who are out for a walk or taking a leisurely bike ride, who are in danger based upon the reckless nature of some drivers.

Working on your behalf – City of Ottawa Bylaw & Policing – Enforced Speed Control on Manotick Station Road to Mitch Owens Road. Implement a Red Light Camera at the Intersection.

May I introduce myself and report to you on a few issues that I have been working on, and have been highlighted by your neighbours in your community. Speeds have become a serious issue resulting in a continuing danger to individuals and families along Manotick Station Road and Mitch Owens Road.

I have spoken with the Ottawa Police Service on the subject of speed enforcement in the area. OPS Traffic Enforcement agrees that this is an issue creating safety concerns. I will get movement on this.

I also will meet with staff from Ottawa Bylaw to talk about placing a Red Light Camera at the intersection of Manotick Station Road and Mitch Owens Road. Speed and the complete disregard for traffic signals along Mitch Owens Road put lives at risk and present a danger to area motorists on a daily basis.

I live in the community of Greely and have been here for several years. I support your small area of the  community and your need for safe roads. I am always concerned at the intersection, especially when large commercial vehicles approach and I have watched many “run the red light.”

May I point out that I have been on the ballot for the Osgoode Ward since the beginning of April. I have been working very hard in the background due to the provincial election and then the federal election. There have been too many demands placed on the area and residents of Carleton and I respect that this has caused “voter fatigue.” Now is the time where you will see my activities over the past several weeks. You will also see my signs, but only for One (1) month. We have all seen enough political signage and I respect you. 30 Days then out of sight!
